It’s a bittersweet moment for the team at Odyssey Events as we announce the official retirement of the original Odyssey Photobooth – the booth that started it all. After years of laughter, unforgettable moments, and thousands of snapshots, we’re saying goodbye to the booth that helped us become a trusted name across East Sussex, Kent and beyond.
But don’t worry – this isn’t the end of the Odyssey story. Far from it.
Back in the early 2010s, we spotted a growing trend emerging in the USA and Australia. Photobooths were becoming a must-have addition to events – and not just any photobooths, but interactive, high-quality booths that delivered an unforgettable guest experience.
After months of research, we knew we couldn’t just buy something off the shelf. So, we did something different – we had our very own bespoke photobooth built. It was custom-designed for Odyssey Events (then known as Odyssey Photobooth) with one clear goal in mind: to be the best in the business.
Unlike cheaper, mass-produced booths of the time, the Odyssey Photobooth was built to last. Portable enough to be transported to venues across the South East, yet rock-solid once assembled, it could comfortably accommodate up to 8 excitable adults looking to create some photographic magic.
Our panels weren’t held together by flimsy magnets. Instead, they were sturdy, secure, and designed with interchangeable graphics in mind. This meant our photobooth could be customised for weddings, school proms, or branded up for corporate events with ease.
From the very beginning, we made quality our top priority. Where others opted for webcams (which often delivered flat, lifeless, and blurry images), the Odyssey Photobooth came equipped with a semi-professional DSLR camera. The difference? Photos that popped with colour and clarity – memories worthy of a wedding album, not just a USB stick.
The same went for our printers. Inkjets might have been cheaper, but they were slow, unreliable, and the results just didn’t cut it. Instead, we went all-in on professional dye-sublimation printers – specifically the legendary DNP DS40. Fast, reliable, and stunningly sharp, it was (and still is!) a workhorse that delivers every single time.
We always believed that a great photobooth experience was about more than just the photos. That’s why we offered luxurious memory albums created specifically for Odyssey Events. No flimsy slip-in photo wallets here – our albums featured custom card stock and wafer-thin interleaves, adding a touch of elegance and class to every event.
And when the night ended? Guests could relive their memories with high-resolution images on a USB flash drive. Over the years, we’ve had all sorts – boxed drives, wooden versions, even credit-card style flash drives. While today’s digital file transfers are quicker and more convenient, there’s something we’ll always miss about handing over a beautifully packaged memento at the end of the evening.
One of the things that’s always set Odyssey Events apart is our team. We never settled for hiring staff to just “press buttons.” Every Odyssey Events team member is fully trained – not just in how to run the booth, but in how to use a camera properly, engage guests, and troubleshoot on the fly if things go awry.
It’s this level of professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine love for what we do that’s helped us stand out from the crowd – and will continue to define us in the future.
In a touching full-circle moment, the final outing for the original Odyssey Photobooth was staffed by the very same two Booth Butlers who manned its very first event. It was a night filled with nostalgia, laughter, and a few teary eyes behind the scenes – a fitting send-off for a photobooth that’s been part of so many people’s stories.
From weddings and birthdays to school proms and corporate events, the original Odyssey Photobooth has served at hundreds of functions across the South East. It’s captured thousands of smiles, silly poses, heartfelt moments, and everything in between.
We’re so proud of the memories we’ve helped create – and incredibly grateful to every client who chose to include us in their special day.
The original booth may be retiring, but we’re not slowing down. Quite the opposite. Something very exciting is in the works, and we can’t wait to show you what’s next.
